[ps... should the wizards of the webosphere smile upon us, y'all would be seeing a bleak pic from our very own saint john fire up yonder. at the rate this episode went up though, we are relatively blessed just to have gotten the MP3 of the show online. i blame the youth. yes, that's correct, all of them.]

sweet snappin' transvestites from transylvania, is there more than meets the eye for ol' sir lord bobby? no, the titular young girl in question is none other than the smooth and sultry miss feist, who plays harbour station here in craggy old SJ this very eve. as such, we check out a smattering of tunes, and move on through the show with sounds in a similar vein from jane birkin, francoise hardy, the free design and more, wrapping things up with a nod of thanks to the USA, who have potentially set in motion a great catalyst for change by electing barack obama to the presidency. i hope that a pressure valve has begun to be released on the many bubbling toils and troubles for those marginalized by the yankee melting pot (sadly, even as homosexuals in california have their newly minted rights snatched back from them). if you need any reminder of the history of prejudice on which that nation, like many before and since, has built its institutional foundation, look no further than this tricky remix of billie holiday's 'strange fruit' which punctuates today's mix.
when i was a young girl – feist
lonely lonely (frisbee’d mix) – feist
sea lion – feist
the simple story – jane birkin & feist
hunter – portishead
i’ll be seeing you – francoise hardy & iggy pop
i found love – styrofoam & sarah shannon vs. the free design
you can know her – nobody feat. mia doi todd
winter – patricia barber
strange fruit (tricky mix) – billie holiday

everywhere you go! everywhere you go! talk of the town! why, oh why uncle sam's country? yer tellin' me, mr walks - how is it that things have come to this, on such a day of reckoning, where a single country's news is, literally, the world's? and regardless of republican or democrat, who really wants to see a president voted in who has campaigned shamlessley on a platform of thinly veiled racism, implicit religous persecution and economic threat, and has encouraged such unfounded assertions to well up in the yankee population? when terms like 'race war' are thrown around with a straight face during an election campaign and outright suspicion of the validity of a 'black' or 'liberal' candidate are allowed to float from public lips unchallenged...?
as such, in the midst of bringing you a swath of new music on today's episode, we also weigh in with voices of reason between rhythms. while the new brightblack morning light percolates with its reclamatory folk-soul-drone, we move on to the motor city-meets-jamdown sound as sly & robbie back amp fiddler in painting the whitehouse black. we dig south african soul with lorraine klaasen, finding light in the autumn dusk, and bear a cross of communion by the rivers of babylon with terry lynne and tricky. dennis walks takes us out with vintage vexation towards the sleeping giant to the south...
another reclamation - brightblack morning light
casanova 70 - air
blackhouse (paint the whitehouse black) - sly & robbie w/amp fiddler
spring in every season - lorraine klaasen
river niger - sly dunbar
rivers of babylon - terry lynne
cross to bear - tricky
voodoo dub version - benaissa & the sharp axe band
uncle sam's country - dennis walks
