sweet christmas, if we wanted to call the last episode a true to form potpourri, then today is surely the essence of true to formlessness. then again, that's the idea here at these dastardly dubwise proceedings - at the grassroots dirtshit level, its all music like dirt. consequently, we not only explore the inner reaches of inverted dub, dancehall and hip hop a la sly dunbar, lee perry and nickodemus, but also manage to squeeze in a swingin' slab of jazz as well as some cosmic country & western, believe it or not, as moog madness and muttered musings from the byrds and the sadies usher in this warped webisode's sonic distillery.
natural harmony - the byrds

by the by, pictured above is the ardgowan distillery fire of 1903, in the town of greenock, near glasgow, scotland. that's the plume of 800,000 gallons of whiskey going up in smoke - a truly tragic day in the history of self-medication...

take note little dawgies - the party at ground zero goes a little something like this, with all the usual sonic suspects present and accounted for. thumpin' afro-jazz gives way to swingin' ska rarities, before making way for some of canada's finest with JFK & the kingpins, not to mention a sultry and smokin' cover of a dawn penn slowburner by reigning canadian rudeheads, montreal's one night band. keep yer collective chin up as the summertime slowly makes its presence known on this indecisively grey tuesday morning. props also to the slackers' glen pine who's selection 'estranged' is bumbled by this mad boss DJ and confused with another fine pine composition, a phonetic cousin from the new record, 'eviction.' an ironic rose by any other name...

mulembo xangola – bonga
my mother’s fatter than yours – beautiful nubia & the roots renaissance band

the riddim returns to the dirtshit on today's podcast, following the heavy, heady jazztastrophe of last week's sonic slab. kicking off with some dubwise chimeric chanting from the easy star allstars and tricky, things get swinging with a soul shakedown sound compliments of syl johnson and derrick harriot before we wrap up proceedings on a JA-latin roots futurclash as past, present and future mash up the dance. fitter, happier, more productive like dirt.

ah, the hot ice and wondrous strange snow of technology vs. human hairbrainedness! with tuesday's episode lost to just such goofy guppy doom, today's show more than makes up for the absence, venturing to the outer reaches of morning programming as we celebrate the sadistic symbiosis of machine marries man megahertz. simply saucer would be proud of these illegal bodies. get hard bopped, get down tempo, strike out with the rhythm stick and get ready to rumble...

gamblor the grey got nuttin' pon this boss DJ! while can-proggers rush may be the dwelt upon poison of choice for fellow CFMH DJ alex gamble's 'prog as balls' program, you can obviously paint ol' sir lord bobby with the same brush when it comes to his beloved church of slack, as we belatedly sample a few weirdo cuts from the freshly acquired new slackers platter 'self-medication'. moving right along, the landscape gets progressively upset with some daredevil roots from steel pulse & adrian miller, before trolling through a dread digital landscape of robot riddims compliments of fidgital, the resinators, hi fi killers and mucho murky more...

welcome to this, the last but hardly least 3rd episode celebrating brooklyn, NYC's own slackers. featured this time out are not only more gummy reggae sides from the slack camp proper, but also a few glances into their innumerable side projects, namely vic ruggiero's solo material, dave hillyard's bombastic rocksteady 7 and a requisite nod to the big apple's unbelievably prolific reggae community in the NYC ska mob. as if that weren't enough, we also have the legendary doreen shaeffer sitting in on their vic rice produced debut, as well as an ingenious reworking of (and remarkable improvement upon!) bon jovi's wanted dead or alive, not to mention johnny cash & bobby d.'s rebel waltz, wanted man. as you can see, the platter is packed once again and could continue as such ad infinitum for this slack cultist, but we'll leave you folks to do some legwork and discovery of your own... do yourself a favour by getting started at ground zero and pick up the new slackers album self medication on indication records stat!
